Hello! I am Avril, PhD., Medical Sciences U of T. My husband and I have been living in the York region for close to a decade. We have two beautiful children, a 6 year old son and a 1 year old daughter. I have become familiar with both the public and private schools in my area. This includes the Montessori schools, the Jewish Day school, and The Academy for Gifted Children (P.A.C.E.). I have two children, (ds) 'James', age 4.75, and my dd, 'Leigh', age 2.25. I am pregnant with a third. My due date is early December. I am at home full time during the day and I am working 15 hours a week outside of the home three evenings a week. James has been formally identified as gifted and it is because of him that I am interested in 'meeting' with other parents and caregivers/educators. I am in the Southern Ontario Region. I am Lisa -- a SAHM to just turned three, 'DVO', my sweet loveable son! My hubby is often referred to as 'Razor' by his buddies. My guy is into math, but not quite as much lately -- more for puzzles and planets. He draws the solar system more often than anything else, and 'Thomas the Tank Engine' is the next favorite thing to draw. I would be shocked if I could get him to draw or paint a family portrait which would included faces instead of a messy blob. I guess planets are easier since they are all circles! He is doing the beginning readers and loves reading 'Winnie the Pooh, 'Thomas the Tank Engine' and his Disney story collection. I am a SAHM to a ds, 'JL' (Fall 1997) and dd, 'KC' (Winter 1996). We live in the Ottawa - Carleton region. When queried about my children's favorite thing, the both answered 'Daddy!'. They also get excited about Ancient Egypt and Digimon, when their Daddy is not around being the greatest human being in the universe. :) I am the moderator for the Ottawa- Carleton region. I am a SAHM (and D.Phil student in limbo--OXON) to two wonderful children -- dd ('Mire') who is 3.5 and ds ('Richard') who is 2.25. We are expecting our third child sometime in Feb. 2002. Hi! I am Teresa, mom to four children. I am also a grandma. My childrens' ages rage from 32 years to 13 years old. They are as follows: ds 32, ds 26, ds 13 and dd 13. All of my children are gifted. When my older sons were young there was little or no information about gifted children so I really winged it but the school and teachers were great. Today they are successful young men with careers and family. Unfortunately, I am not having the same success with the educators and school with my younger children, despite that these are some of the same teachers I had for my older children. I came to the board to share information but also to gain knowledge of what, we, as parents, are facing in trying to educate our children in the public and separate school systems today.
