From the Administrator (whose son attends this school): Richland Academy is a small, private co-ed school that opened in September 2002.  I find the school philosophy to be rich in content and well grounded.  What stuck a cord with me when I brought my son there was the focus on the development of the whole child, with specific emphasis on developing a strong moral character and desire to be the best person you could be.  It also didn't hurt that the school has a philosophy of adapting the curriculum to match the student and not the other way around.  My son was assessed with a short achievement test (very basic as he is in JK), and this information was passed to his teachers.  Robert's skills in language and math are developed and challenged because they provide him with material that is at his level.  Each child receives this attention irrespective of whether they are "gifted" or not.  I love the fact that the math period is longer than normal. This allows the children to have the opportunity to study/interact with a variety of mathematical concepts throughout this time rather than just focusing on one math topic for a short time each day.  They have language arts and math at the same time each day so that your child can attend the most appropriate level of instruction in these subjects.  They are open to the idea of acceleration if that is what is best for your child -- I know personally of three children who were grade advanced, and even one that is working four years ahead of their grade level in math.  The communication between the teachers and the parents is phenomenal!  Everyday the topics that Robert studied are written down in his agenda, and I receive monthly newsletters from each subject teacher on the material they have covered in class.  Please contact me if you would like further information!  All the best, Sheri Drop by the school for their Open House:  January 29th, from 7pm through 9pm!
