It is very brief. In the YRDSB a gifted student in the primary grades (up to grade three) is considered to have "their needs met in the regular classroom". Special Education Plan, Appendices - Procedure P355.0 (Psychological Assessment, Request for) This document outlines the procedures to follow when requesting a psychological assessment, whether that be for giftedness or other exceptionalities. Testing Procedures to enter into the Grade 4 Gifted Program (as of May 2003)
The minimum
entrance requirement to be considered for the Grade 4 gifted in York
Region Public Schools is a 98th percentaile on the short-form of the
WISC. This is in contrast to the TDSB, for example, which is a
98% OR a 99% on either the verbal or performance IQ score on the
WISC. We will endevor to update this information as it becomes
available to us. It is advisable to contact your school as
early as possible regarding the current assessment procedures for

Alternative Schools in York Region: PACE: The Academy for the Gifted This is a private school for gifted children and accomodates grades 1 through 12. Académie de la Moraine This is a French school (as opposed to a French immersion school). It is quite small, comprising of about 100 students in grades JK through 8. All of the classes are split. The school is located at 13200 Yonge Street, just south of Elm Grove Avenue. The school is new, having openned in 2000.
